For this task I have been set I will be creating an idea for a exhibition based around three specific photographers who have related ideas and styles. Below I created a slide show of my three favourite photographers in order to decide what sort of style and theme I want to use for my final exhibition.
Favourite Photographers:
LARRY CLARK: Larry Clark, (born January 19, 1943, Tulsa, Oklahoma, U.S.), American photographer and film director who was best known for his provocative works about teenagers, with drugs and sex often as central elements.Clark also worked on an independent documentary project in Tulsa, recording himself and his teenage friends, who were involved in a culture of drug addiction, uncontrolled sexuality, and violence. As an active participant, Clark was able to invest his images with a powerful immediacy. The photographs were published in 1971 as Tulsa, a book that established Clark’s national reputation. In the 1990s Clark extended his work to filmmaking by directing the film Kids (1995), a fictionalised account of teenagers involved in a skateboarding and nightclub culture in New York City, which was critically acclaimed, though the film’s powerful and candid portrayal of teenage sexuality and drug abuse made it controversial.
Corinne Day: Corinne Day (b1965) is a British photographer whose influence on the style and perception of photography in the early 1990s has been immense. As a self taught photographer, Day brought a more hard edged documentary look to fashion image making, in which she often included biographical elements. Day is known for forming long and close relationships with many of her sitters (most famously Kate Moss), which have resulted in candid and intimate portraits. The most notable of these being the photographs of Moss in the 3rd Summer of Love editorial for the FACE magazine in 1990. Days approach as illustrated within the lifestyle and fashion magazines of the 1990s, came to be known as grunge and grew into an international style.
Leaflet:
Once I had collected images and information on my favourite artists I chose three specific and relatively connecting photographers who connected around the style in which they photograph images. I chose Corinne Day, Larry Clark and Juergen Teller to be in my leaflet. This is the second stage of development in which it will help me find the types of theme I want to incorporate in my final piece of work.
